LETHAL EYES

Hoewel ik al honderden leeuwen had gefotografeerd in Oost-Afrika, wilde ik nu leeuwen fotograferen in een compleet nieuwe omgeving. Het deed me besluiten om naar de Serengeti te reizen. Serengeti is het Swahili's woord voor eindeloze vlaktes. Op deze vlaktes leeft de grootste concentratie leeuwen van Afrika. Meer dan 3.000 leeuwen. De granieten rotsen waar Oost-Serengeti mee bezaaid is, zijn het ideale uitkijkpunt voor leeuwen om uit te rusten, maar fungeren tegelijkertijd als uitkijktorens om naar prooien te zoeken. Het is opmerkelijk hoe hun ogen in een paar seconden veranderen van slaperig en dromerig naar extreem dodelijk. De dramatische wolken zijn de kers op de taart en geven deze prachtige leeuwin het epische karakter dat ze verdient.


Although I had already photographed hundreds of lions in East Africa,I now wanted to photograph lions in a completely new setting. It made me decide to travel to the Serengeti. Serengeti the Swahili word for endless plains. These plains are home to the largest concentration of lions in Africa. More than 3,000 individuals. The granite rocks that East Serengeti is dotted with are the ideal vantage point for lions to rest, but also simultaneously act as watchtowers to look for preys. It is remarkable how their eyes change from sleepy and dreamy to lethal in a few seconds. The dramatic clouds are the icing on the cake and give this beautiful lioness the epic character she deserves.
